Bush-isms

I'm sure most of you have seen these lovely tidbits from our un-President, but for posterity's sake, here they are. Just in case you needed to be reminded of what a complete idiot he is.

Nader running?!?!?!?!?!

Ralph, Don't Run!

for the record, i don't agree that Nader shouldn't run. but i also don't agree that gore and bush are 90% alike. the most important difference is the many lives of americans and iraqis alike that would have been spared if we had not entered this ridiculous, bloody mess of a war, but there are others.

Now playing in 2,600 home theaters: Bush's lies about Iraq

Dems in Durham, Kucinich at the Toast?

So tonight, all the Democratic candidates are going to be in town for a debate in Durham, hosted by Ted Koppel and televised on ABC. I'll be missing it because it will be occuring right when I'm commuting home from work (o long and dreary drive). Bummer. But the exciting part is Dennis Kucinich's schedule immediately surrounding said debate:

Tuesday, Dec. 9:

7-8:30 p.m. - ABC presidential candidate debate moderated by Ted Koppel at UNH, Johnson Theater, Durham.

8:30-8:50 p.m. - National Democratic Party reception following debate.

8:50-9 p.m. - Kucinich will stop by a debate-watch party to greet supporters.

Wednesday, Dec. 10

7:45-8:30 a.m. - Breakfast in Portsmouth at Friendly Toast, 121 Congress St., Portsmouth.

Dec. 10 is International Human Rights Day, and Kucinich campaign workers are making it a day of service. Supporters in towns around the country plan to volunteer their services to their communities.

How bizarre! If any of you have not been to the Friendly Toast, think of it as Portsmouth's answer to the Deli-Haus - ultra-wierd diner-like hangout for strange folk and punk rock waitresses that serves super-yummy vittles and is outfitted in retro yard sale and Ebay finds. No velvet Elvises but there are some hula girl lamps and a painting of naked ladies that together form the head of Satan if you stand back a little. I swear. Like those 3-D posters. It is absolutely one of my favorite places to eat, drink coffee, beer, what have you. It's also a little like Cheers in that every time I go there I inadvertently see someone I know, which is good for a case of the lonesomes. What a strange thing for a presidential candidate to do. Maybe I'll join them! *stomach makes angry hunger noises*

Seven pints but sober; give that man €120k

I should get drunk in Ireland more often. From the Irish Emigrant:

In 1996 Dundalk man Patrick Rogers (58), was found on a footpath on the Newry Road with serious head injuries. In the three hours and 15 minutes before he was found he had consumed seven pints of beer. At the time he couldn't explain how he came to be injured but some three years later he recalled seeing the lights of a car coming towards him and he was unable to get out of the way. Armed with this knowledge he sued the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland and on Friday Justice Daniel Herbert decided that he should receive €120,700. The judge was satisfied that, as Rogers was a heavy drinker, the seven pints had not resulted in him "becoming either mentally or physically impaired". The MIBI collects a levy from car insurers so that the cost of damage and injury caused by uninsured drivers can be met.

Burger King Holiday

holy crap this is funny. poor guy.

skin grafts? ow.

Dean?

Saw this on Gordy's blog.

Howard Dean for President

I gotta say I agree with this Ted Rall character, especially when he says this:

"I'm a charter member of the 2004 ABB (Anybody But Bush) society. Whether the nominee turns out to be a right-winger (Clark, Lieberman) or a colorless bore (Edwards, Kerry, Gephardt), I'll vote for him over Bush, in the same spirit with which the late Afghan warlord Ahmed Shah Massoud reportedly toasted a meeting of anti-Soviet factions during the '80s occupation: "First we kill the Russians. Then we kill each other." But I have a preferance:

Howard Dean has the best chance to beat Bush."

Your help is needed! Women in Mexico are being targetted for violent crimes and despite the pattern of violence, the Mexican authorities have been slow to develop solutions. As a recipient of WomensWire from the ThePetitionSite.com -- The Newsletter for Healthy, Active Women-- we thought that you should know about this grave problem and give you an opportunity to help!
Urgent alert: Women in Mexico Targetted for Violent Crimes!
  • petition link

  • Since 1993, over 370 women have been killed or have "disappeared" in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua, Mexico. To date, the Mexican authorities have been slow to act in response to the horrifying pattern of violence that has become commonplace in Juarez and Chihuahua.
The International Community is gravely concerned about the safety of the women of Chihuahua. Please join Amnesty International in its efforts to persuade the Mexican authorities to take action now before any more lives are lost.
Sign this petition to the Mexican Ambassador to the United States. The message must be clear: violence against women must be tackled at its roots. All instances of it must be thoroughly investigated, those responsible brought to justice, and steps must be taken to address the causes of women's vulnerability to violence.
